Åracle
Bridging virtual platforms with physical environments anchored this interactive installation for the Guggenheim’s Åzone Futures Market. Serving as the physical interface for the institution's first online exhibition, the project focused on translating digital interactions into a tangible mechanical terminal. The work spanned hardware development, software integration, and sound design to connect a virtual trading platform with physical space.
The core of the installation was the Åracle mechanical terminal, developed to process and materialize live data. The system integrated with an online platform where visitors bought and sold futures based on near-future products. Software was built to link these virtual actions, alongside live news feeds and the platform’s market trends database, directly to the physical hardware. This architecture allowed the terminal to continuously pull remote data and drive the mechanical printing components.
Synchronizing a live online exhibition with a physical mechanical device required robust data handling and hardware reliability. The system had to continuously parse fluctuating market trends and real-time visitor actions without dropping requests or stalling the mechanical output. Development focused on ensuring the terminal could maintain a steady state with the online database, translating digital market volatility into a reliable physical actuation pipeline.
The completed terminal successfully operated within the Åzone Terminal space, presenting visitors with a live market overview. As a continuous output of the system's integration, the hardware printed an evolving exhibition catalog in real-time based on the latest market activity. The installation was exhibited at the Guggenheim in New York, validating the architecture's ability to merge online participation with physical exhibition spaces.
